The LLY Duramax Diesel TrucksAfter years of LB7 injector issues GM introduced the LLY Duramax with its upgraded injectors located outside the valve cover. These trucks don't suffer from the common injector haze from earlier generations. With its rapid heat glow plug system and large variable vane turbo these trucks start excellent in the winter and can make some significant power with little modification.
Common LLY Duramax ProblemsOverheating and blown head gaskets. While head gasket failure often comes as a result of overheating the truth is the 2001-2006 Duramax head gasket has a weak design and doesn't plague ONLY the LLY trucks. Pressurized cooling system, loss of heat in the cab, and coolant loss can all be related to failed head gaskets.
SolutionsWhile most consider the head bolt to be the reason for head gasket failure it is truly the head gasket design mixed with a poorly designed turbo mouth piece that is causing the issues.
