LBZ engines are known for head gasket failure, overheating and water pump leaks. Whereas an LLY engine is known for water pump failures, injector harness chafing, and glow plug failures. Newer engines tend to have injector problems, and piston issues. With this being said, typically the most reliable Duramax engine was the LLY/LBZ during the years of 2006-2007.
